How to Scan and Edit a Document on Windows 10

DaveM121

Hi Rocky, most scanners can only scan to an image file format - it depends on the software supplied with your scanner . . .

What you need is OCR support - Optical Character Recognition

Click the link below to download a free utility that will scan your documents to an editable file using OCR

Hi Rocky. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

When you install the full printer/scanner software does it include OCR or other character recognition, because it needs to be scanned by that in order to be editable.

Word can also convert a scanned .pdf into an editable document.

See these resources:

You can also edit scans online using a program such as this: https://www.pdffiller.com/en/edit-scanned-pdf.htm

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Technically, scanned documents are not editable. However, if you use the Scanner application supplied by the Manufacturer, you should be able to Scan the document in a different format that allows easy editing.
For example. Canon Scanning app allows me to save as PDF which can be edited online easily. JPEGs are tough to edit.

Hmmm.    I had no idea it was going to be that big of a hassle to do what I thought was a fairly simple operation.   The suggestions are something I am going to have to try when I have some free time to play around.

I do thank you for the responses.
